Kilrog didn't give any experience

I'm a newbie and a level 32 Wizard… I fought a Kilrog in or near the badlands who was level 350… with some luck, wood nymphs and a hold monster I was able to diminish his 6000ish health down to zero but was awarded no experience. This a bug or do these things not give experience? I was pretty disappointed as i was expecting to a ton of experience points.

The badlands is a special zone that doesn't give any experience or have any penalties for dying
