I only run one toon per account… inability to trade items with my own characters is just a massive NO for me.
If it ain't broke… don't fix it.

I think their point about overuse of single items is well served with the current solution, if you wanted to trade between accounts i think the only way for BoA to be removed would be like a diminishing durability mechanism instead. We'd be then selling items at whatever % durability if we were to sell them. Give the items a lifetime of maybe one toon's normal use and then cant be repaired anymore.
It literally worked fine for what 22 years?
You come back to play an old game… you don't want someone to have pulled a fast one and replaced it with an entirely new game. I mean enough stuff has already been changed. But I just absolutely abhor BoE item nonsense. It does nothing but add clunky bs to the game. It would be "acceptable" if people only ran one account… but with 4-6 accounts that craps going to get beyond frustrating fast. No I can't trade my Elem SDM 2 hander from my warrior to my adven… Why… because 3 guys decided to stick their fingers into something that didn't need changing that had worked perfectly fine for better than 2 decades. I mean Realm is a game you log in to to relax and waste some time. It's not a hardcore raiding MMO where people try to sneak in any advantage they can…. Maybe I just want to put my Blue pants on my rogue today because I don't want to re-dye my pants… I mean Realm is that kind of game. Hell low level items might as well not exist. You will outlevel them before they drop for you… and you can't even hand them down…
It's almost like they want Realm to become WoW.. and lets be real here… if I wanted to play WoW there is a better WoW already out there… you know? I wanted to come back and enjoy some Realm…. not whatever this is… I constantly trade gear around alts… it's my play style…. this effectively just ruins the game as far as my enjoyment goes. I can't trade an item to my own blasted alt because he's not on the same account? Dammit it's me…. I couldn't care less about selling items…
To put this in perspective of how much it ruins the game for me…. it's like giving the Mona Lisa an eye patch and a pirate hat.
lol
Except that it was broken. There was no economy on legacy.
I get it. We all have these nostalgic memories from 20 years ago in the glory days and during that small nostalgic window everything was perfect. Having thousands of players can help hide flaws.
But that's not reality. The reality is that the systems need to be designed to support longevity and not just a small window during which you will be playing.
I'm not saying I love the bind system, but, something had to be done and to just gloss over it by saying "it was fine" is pretty disingenuous.
Lack of events/new content/common sense/servers that were never up under BG is what killed realm pop.
No none quit because OMG I can't bind items to one character like I can on WoW… I better quit.
However ya did just lose someone because it was added.
Anywho adding unnecessary crap people don't want is generally speaking how every MMO dies. Toss in a cash shop and start removing older features and you kill the one thing the game has going for it. That sense of nostalgia.
Do you have any idea how many 2D turn based RPG's with BoE items and microtransactions there are out on mobile right now? Turning Realm into another of those isn't going to bring in moew players… it's going to turn the game into an uglier version of what already exists.
Seriously you folks mention BoE being added for the economy and yet they added cashshop dyes that are tradeable which make economy pointless? You just spend dozens of hours farming "x" items? Here's $5 worth of dye… mine.
