Since there's little demand for lower tier crafting reagents, how about allowing them to be used in some way.
I'm not suggesting upconvert to next tier reagents as that seems unreasonable, but more something like allow them to be salvaged with a chance to yield the pattern for the slot they are for and mabonite, or something like that. Which then those parts can become part of the upconvert game and have a purpose.
Or even 3:1 them into their own pattern. 3 rat charmers for a prof shoe pattern.
I'm sure there are many other ideas also.
