Like old diablo kinda where you can repair items but over time the max repair amount goes down to 0 to where the item just poofs at the very end. That way sure we can trade them between accounts and use em for multiple toons if necessary but the item's total durability score just degrades with use.
im sure this had ben mentione before so if its a repost pls delete
I suggested this back on MW and people had their pitchforks out in full force heh.
I'd much prefer this to BoE. As it stands I simply can't play the game with BoE mechanics in the game. Is I'm the kind of guy that runs 6 accounts and generally use chat for just that "chat" while I go about my single player game… the inability to trade items between my own characters is so far beyond frustrating that there is simply no reason to play.
Alternate solution… make the items tradable between the same WEB account… not just game account. It's just ridiculous that I can't trade items between my own characters if a fight call for it.
Oh look I'm about to deal with a bunch of shifting mobs… please explain to me why I can't swap my wizzies thrower over to my Fist-Dexer thief?
Oh look I decided I'm not actually a fan of Warlords on X character because it's too heavy…. sooooo now I can't give it to a different one of my hitters why?
Simply put binding per account is ridiculous when most people run multiple accounts. Frankly I never trade items and couldn't care less what people are doing on 5… I just want to be able to swap items around on my toons.

I get what you're saying, and in general I agree with you, it'd be nice if I could use that familiar warlords gear I have sitting around, and a new toon I start that might not be on the same account, but linked to same web account. Then again, when I make that new char, paying the 400k for a new set, is what keeps newer players, who don't have higher level toons, with the ability to sell some stuff they find and make some money.
Get the point?
I am not a fan of BoE, but I do now see it’s benefits to the economy with drop rates fairly balanced. However, I don’t think I can get on board with items inevitably being destroyed due to diminishing durability. /pitchfork
Honestly I just started back playing on a WoW private server.
If I have to deal with BoE nonsense… I might as well do it on a game with more "game" to it.
Collecting gear that would be passed down to alts was basically the entire reason I played Realm to begin with. It was one of the few things Realm had that made it "different." Similar to my reasons for playing D2 and T4C for years.
Without that there just really isn't much going for it to me. The item hunting goes from "hey I'm going to pass this BC down from one toon to the next for 10 years to ….. hey look.. a BC… this is basically about as cool as finding a single use potion.
well back before, drops were actually rare and not expected. drop rates were pretty much standard and a mystery the entire time. now we have staff literally saying stuff like "open all your bounties now they will suck soon". staff engagement is a double-edged sword here sorta
Regarding item destruction - while I see and understand it’s merits. It more often than not leads to players not wanting to take out their rare loot and they end up saving it or never using it at all. The only real way to counteract that behaviour is to make drop rates so high that people don’t fear losing the gear.. and doing that reduces the value of the items so massively that what’s the point?
Regarding boe - it makes a lot of sense, I was a skeptic when it was first introduced but it has so many long term benefits that people seem to overlook. Firstly - it allows for drop rate tweaks (usually buffs) without them having a massive detrimental economic knockonneffect. Secondly - due to the cyclical nature of a gaming community (players coming and going, and coming back various times over and over) without boe items they often could leave giant stashes of loot behind in drops etc when they quit, and if they’re successfully enchanted already that’s more loot that’s being poured back into the world which will lurk around forever until someone blows it up or vendors it (remember there’s no pvp item drops, we have insurance which is great). So whenever players quit and did item drops they left behind a huge economic footprint whether they ever logged on again or not, whereas with boe your economic footprint remains largely with your character (aside from gold).
For the record though - permanent item destruction without a resource yield/item upgrade/etc has never been a fun game design tool. “I love grinding for hours to get gear that I can’t wear because it’ll break and disappear forever” - said no gamer ever.

I agree with the two statements above, and am not a fan of an item disappearing over time.
What about meeting in the middle, Where the BoA is still in game, but a less magic, more plentiful option exist.
A set of 1/3 or half strength magic items that didn't bind. So you can share it across accounts, but its never as strong as the current great eq. I'd be interested in seeing the Vulcan Edge/Life Leech make a return (i don't think they are in the game anymore, but I haven't been playing very long) but aping the current set of gear is maybe the best for balancing ease. Would having such an option even be tolerable to those who don't want binding?
Vulcan Edge is on FF, Life Leech is not around…
I remember when Guards carried nullswords, now THATS some nostalgia for you.
