I've found that the biggest problem with grouping up with friends to fight monsters is that my group constantly gets split up. When my group walks to a new room, someone often gets attacked without the rest of the group or someone gets left behind in the previous room. This makes it almost impossible to play the game with younger children, which as a father, I would enjoy doing with my kids. Maybe the game should automatically ask each member if they want to be teleported into a fight when it starts? (Provided they are within a few rooms of the fight and not halfway across the world)
Greetings!
I would suggest that every group member turn off follow. Then you can take one character and move to the night battle and gather in the rest of your group.
Something like this: Battle is over and everyone leaves combat. Everyone can buff themselves as needed for the next fight. One person can go to the next fight and summon everyone in. Rinse and repeat. No one has to move around the dungeon except for the person that is doing the gathering.
That might be okay if the group leader is high level and you're in a dungeon. However, if the group leader is low level then they'll get jumped when they move into the room with the desired fight and the rest of the group won't be included in the fight. Or, if you're not in a dungeon, group members who are waiting to be gathered could be jumped by wandering monsters as well.
I thought they fixed it so the creatures in caves did not jump you?? or was that just on mw?
You do not get jumped in a cave on the Finvarra Fortress server.

Aye, so he must be talking about Open world grouping. Zaps suggestion still basically works, as long as the person doing the gathering is a high dex char, who can flee before first attack if they're jumped. It's an annoyance, agreed.
The "join battle" option at the start of a fight, would be really cool, though. I'd fully support something like that.
