I really wish we could open mini store stands in game to sell with trade windows where we could put in what we have for sale. That way you could sell and buy while not even being there. Kind of like Ebay. It would be better than just the trading channel. You wouldn't have to worry that no one is currently online selling what you want. The store would still be open.
From a coding point of view, could this be done? Something where maybe we could have a personal password and a personal trading cart, even in a shop, where we could put in items we're selling and when the item is bought, the gold either goes into our chest or a special chest we take it from with a password. I know years ago they were trying to do something similar, but for whatever the reason, it was abandoned. I think it's something that could help players. Not everyone is online at the same times, and you wouldn't have to miss what you need.
I think possibly the biggest issue with this is space… every 'shop' would take up a screen in the world… the work-around for player housing was to essentially make them almost dungeons (albeit pretty looking ones) … it might be easier to create a market system, where you offer items and a sale price for people to purchase… a similar interface (mail) exists, so I suspect it wouldn't be massively different to code than that.
Make it so the front of people's houses are the trading cart maybe? Make the teleporter can have a list of people that have marked their vendors as active. If your vendor has had no activity from the owner or other players in 30 days it's taken off the list.
That sounds good, doing it from your lawn and having it list at the teleporter. Maybe they could do something like that. We really need it.
I suppose another fairly generic option for this, would be the ability to 'trade' to the NPC's .. they charge a fee (% or flat) to list your item, take it from you, and if sold, give you the gold you set the price @ … it wouldn't be too hard to put a shop in every town (potentially all listing the same items) if you sell it, you get coin, if you don't you get to go collect your item back ? … again though, in many ways this sounds a lot like a market system in many games - just different ways of implementing it.
