Prestige Spell Ideas

Hey, guys,

I thought it might be fun (at least for me! Hopefully someone else thinks so too?) to brainstorm new spell ideas. My thought here is for prestige level spells, but really it doesn't have to be limited to that.

Most of my spell ideas are really combination spell effects from existing spells because I assume (??) that it's easier for this be a reality than creation of all new spell effects.

I'll admit not all of mine are thoroughly thought out and could be broken or way overpowered. They're just to get conversation going. I would not really expect all these ideas to make it live.

Sorcery Prestige

Succor - only usable in a dungeon and out of combat - teleport you to the entrance room of the dungeon. This is a QoL attempt for re-running the same dungeon over and over.
Enhanced Invisibility - Extension + Improved Invis in a single cast.

Elementalism Prestige

Lightning Storm - Lightning Bolt on the target + Electric Fury on the group.
Frozen Orb - Ice orb + freeze.
Frostfire Bolt - Flame Orb + Ice Orb.

Mysticism Prestige

Frenzy - Single target Berserk + Fumble
Focus - buff caster's Thaum/Elem/Necro sdm by x% (as some gear does) for a couple rounds (short duration)

Thaumaturgy Prestige

Improved Heal - single target Greater Heal + Cure Poison
Group Heal - group Greater Heal (not full heal)
Area Heal - ground target Greater Heal + Cure Poison

Necromancy Prestige

Elemental Curse - Curse to Fire, Cold, Lightning in a single cast.
Corrosive Curse - Curse to Poison and Acid in single cast.
Corrosive Bolt - Poison Bolt + Acid Sphere in a single cast.

You can also get a bit crazy with some cross-school combinations. Perhaps reserved for only the highest skill rank (9?)

Enchant Strength - Casts Enchant Item and Empower with a single cast. Standard enchanting rules apply, this is simply to reduce casts. Should cost more mana than the two spells individually, and you risk the extra mana cost on failure for the luxury of a single cast.
Enchant Dexterity - same as above with Nimbility.
Summon Armored Warrior - Shadow Warrior + Invul on it.
Crippling Weakness - Defenselessness + Enfeeble.
Summon Poisonous Daemon - Summon Daemon + Venomous Touch on it.

Anyone have any cool ideas?

I like and support the idea of prestige spells, though I think the general consensus would be that wizards are by far the strongest class at the moment though and don't need any help.. So buffing them may not be at the top of the developers to-do list as far as raw number buffs.. but changing the play style may be cool. Things like succor may work well- but combining spell effects may not be what is needed right now as given their current strength, giving them higher round per round casting efficiency just increases their power even more. A better idea may be to redistribute the god spells to spell schools you master - given the likely respecialisation of wizards that'll be coming in the future which stops you being grand master of everything - maybe allowing them to slowly specialise in more schools as they prestige, gaining 1 extra specialised school on the first prestige, then another every 2 prestiges, so that by prestige 8(?) you'd finally be specialised and proficient in all schools enabling god spell access and any sdm bonuses that come with (truly) mastering the school…

Though this may impact the strength of f2p vs p2p too much.

Tldr; wizards strong. No need numbers/efficiency buffs. Prestige spells sound cool though. More out of combat utility like the succor spell possibly.

Hey, Zewpi,

Thanks for your thoughts! I appreciate you taking the time to compose them.

As a general design principle I don't love the idea of "Wizards are so strong no new magic is needed". I don't dispute that wizards are in a strong place right now (especially early game), but with magic not being wizard only it seems like a poor way to balance. The magic circles are actually probably the most generic and universally trained and used skills - for example literally every toon trains Thaum and uses it whether they are an all intel wiz or an all end warrior. The same cannot be said for Clubs.

I guess what I'm saying is in general I don't think using wiz balance as a reason not to get into prestige spells is a good thing. I'd rather wizards be balanced appropriately (sdm/spell power/whatever) overall than limit growth that might benefit everyone and not just wizards.

I do think your f2p vs p2p is an excellent point that I hadn't considered. Thanks for bringing that up! I'm not sure I have a great response to this at this time as I don't think I know all the ins-and-outs of prestige well enough (have not done it) yet.

I assume that prestige level skillbooks are already increasing power of weapon/spell effects. So if this is true there already exists a "imbalance of power" in f2p vs p2p. How do we feel about this? I don't see people complaining about it, but maybe it's just because not many have prestiged yet?

Prestige is not currently in the game as far as i know at this moment in time.
Prestige in testing granted access to skills and areas and other things that a free account would not be able to do.
The higher level skills allow more hits , stronger spell power, more dodges, more blocks.
So in my eyes this makes it a sort of P2win .

The only info we had regarding new skills etc from prestige skill levels 6+ was from MW, it may be that calculations change on these skills in the current realm to lean more towards balance between noble and regular players. Though I can see why there would be a strong incentive to sub for prestige for the extra power spikes from skills. Alternatively they could do away with all of that and introduce cosmetic-only rewards through prestige, exclusive dyes etc. I don't believe much info has been released regarding their plans for the prestige system or i have missed it if it has.

I personally don't mind the extra attack/dodge/SDM etc gained from skill 6+in MW's prestige system and i think the well prepared player will still be able to PvP at lvl 1k lvl 5 skills vs 6 skills just fine, PvE however prestige players will have a large advantage in just pure damage and more reliable control from med+myst 6+.

Regarding the main topic however, like I say, world utility would be cool things to see added to prestige across the board, such as your "succor" spell. That's not to say that in the future when/if wizards are toned down enough, the other abilities you mention may be a very good way of them bringing them back into line.
