Silence the Intro Game Music Please

Started by Carrigon

The music that plays when we load the game and the character screen, we need to be able to turn that off. I had tried awhile back to replace those music files with blank ones, it didn't work. It seems the music may be server based. Unless someone else has found a way to shut it off, please post if you have. Can we please get those music files silenced or an option to turn them off? They really are annoying after awhile.

Just turn your speakers down for the 10 seconds it takes to log in, the rest of the game can be muted.

I need a permanent solution than that, I multitask and might need the speakers on during that time. It wouldn't be hard for them to just put blank music files on the server since it doesn't work trying to do it from the client end.

So, log in, it takes 5 seconds. If you multi task this isn't a difficult thing to handle. Instead you're wanting the Devs to do something because it bothers YOU and maybe a random person or 2.

It's an unnecessary annoyance that should have been done away with years ago. The intro music is no longer needed. And it is a very easy fix to put the blank music files on the server. As it is, turning off the midi setting should fix this, and it doesn't.

After reading this post I attempted my old work around for this, and found it does still work, though now you do need to press a button because the file will not load. If you remove the files from the folder, through either deletion or moving to another folder, the game will still load, but without music files. Just remove start.mid and charmenu.mid to avoid needing to press this button a LOT.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

UPDATE: My silent startup files work with the new client. I just tried them. I'm uploading them and I'll put them in a separate post.

Just remove start.mid and charmenu.mid …

I found it more stable to copy a different midi file that didn't have as boisterous a fanfare using the same name as the Start and Charmenu files. Best fix would be to create midi files that have no sound in them… but I really don't know how to to create midi and don't care enough to google it.

Opposite camp here, I love it that loadup, to me its the realms iconic sound.

While I will totally agree with you about it being one of Realm's iconic sounds, If you're playing music while Realming, or if you've heard that fan-fare a million times over, having the option to turn it off would be amazing.

this maybe a bit late but you can rename the file START.MID to START.MID.bak and the game will not play the file but it may be undone when the new game client and or patch files are released

So technically all you need to do is create a blank text file and rename it to START.MID and drop it in the folder overwriting the original file. When you start The Realm Online, it will pop an error message saying that it couldn't play the blank audio file (because it's not really an audio file at all). Hit OK on the prompt and you are in. Annoying sound gone :)

No, why do something that throws an error when you can easily use blank .mid files? Mine should still be up in the other post. They work fine. No errors.

I love the intro music for nostalgia. I turn off the other music in game, though.

I ended up muting it in my Windows Volume Mixer - saves the muted state next time I launch. Not sure if that helps.

Honestly there is a easy solution to this, Download cakewalk midi stuido FREE version. Load the midi files you want to edit. On the left side of the screen turn the output to ZERO and hit save.. you now have the orignal file in the correct size,,, but with ZERO sound. mwhahaha
