So I am just dipping my toe back in after 20 years and I wanted to both take a trip down memory lane on the legacy server and play the new server. I read over the forums and found various posts about launching issues and I am patching the legacy client right now. I am wondering if both the clients can coexist, are there any gotchas I should be aware of?
You can play both the legacy and the new but you have to do both installations and install them in different directories. Everybody plays on the new server Fin, usually around 250-350 accounts on. Nobody really groups anymore, so I’d start out boxing 3-4 accounts if you decide you want to play for a while.
Thanks, I kinda figured it out the hard way. For example, after installing the legacy client I installed the new client and it overwrote my desktop link. Fortunately, it defaulted to installing into separate directories, so that is great! I was able to make new desktop shortcuts and set all the compatibility and admin settings on the executables. I can login to both but not play both from the same account (duh!).
Man, am I really going to grind out another 1k toon? Is it just nostalgia? Will it last? :)
Getting to 1k isn’t anywhere as difficult as it used to be. In fact many players have prestiged and are “2k”.
With group xp bonuses and prestige zones offering 1.5x it flys by. Heroic versions of dungeons offer more to do at higher levels and of course more xp.
The F12 speed boost literally speeds up your hunting by 5x, so everything just moves faster.
I’d recommend at least dual boxing (2 accounts/2 installation directories), as that will help you take on harder content earlier and is more fun imo.
Consider also the new/rebalanced weapons and class gear improving your characters; leveling on new Realm is no problem.
I’ve been back just over a month and have 3 almost 1k toons. Other devoted players say you can do it in a week or so.
Nostalgia will draw you in, but the new devs are great and new content will keep you playing.
Have fun!
