Update in progress, check back often…

Prestige Abilities
  • Cleave - Requires Veteran Critical Striking and attacks all opponents withing weapon range. It does not work with Throwing daggers.
  • Shield Bash - Chance to retaliate and hit opponent with shield when hit.

Prestige Spells
  • Adventurer's Adornment - +25% damage to entire party, Adventurer only.
  • Thief's Haste - Increases the movement rate of target by a factor of 3, Thief only.
  • Mind Rot - Reduces all spell resist by 50%, Wizard only.

New Dungeon
  • Tunnels of Death - End game dungeon with all new NPC logic. Only the best will be able to complete this dungeon.

Happy Easter!
  • With Easter quickly approaching we have added some new event items for the occasion.
  • Easter Bunny's can be found throughout most of the open world bearing eggs for all!

Changes
  • Iron Chains - No longer is a "mass mind shackle" it now can pull opponents toward the caster with a chance to delete the shift affect or apply freeze.
  • Shift - No longer is based on time, it is now based on usage. Each shift reduces the number of shifts remaining by one. The number of shifts you receive is based on SDM for the spell and Theurgism for the potions.
  • Event Items - Items will now display HOMEOWNER RESTRICTED in their description if they can only be picked up by you on your lawn or within your house.
  • Prestige Skillbooks - A rank indicator has been added to all prestige skillbook descriptions.

On the Horizon
  • Prestige 2 - With Prestige 1 complete we will be opening up P2 in the near future. Hopefully by the end of April.

This looks like it might not be the happiest patch for my throwing ADET. Will Shift still be dispellable, as well as nerfed and subject to Iron Chains?

Zangulas

I’m assuming Prestige 2 will make you start at level 1 again?

No changes to shift being dispellable. If you have a decent amount of myst resist you shouldn’t have to worry too much about iron chains removing your shift.

That’s correct.

Any scheduled downtime and approximate time new update will be live?

Is the test server no longer a viable option for testing changes to the game? In particular, the number of charges for Shift could have been tested and calibrated for play. As mentioned in other threads, 15 charges is just a giant middle finger to solo/2-box players. You could have changed it to a group spell, with something like 60 charges for the whole group, even if that group is one person. I know you're trying to please everyone, and it isn't easy.

New shift wouldn’t be so bad if they just fixed the bug where enemy throwers cause you to shift. There is also a bug where held enemy throwers will still counter attack to other throwers. It’s very easy to get one rounded if 2 enemy throwers target the same character. It’s annoying with a 4 person group. I couldn’t imagine solo or duo as the changes are now. It’s odd to me that the developers haven’t said anything about it yet which sadly makes me think that they just don’t care about the smaller groups. That’s apparent with the bonus exp that is given for the larger groups. Solo players should get 200% exp boost and duo should get 100% and shrink from there. Why? Because there is more risk, takes at least 6 times longer to fight each battle, and it would allow a solo player to stay in lower level dungeons longer. They need to do something before prestige 2 or this will get ugly.

I mostly agree; I don't know if that'll be changed from a design perspective, but Enemy Throwers make the Shift nerf that much more apparent. I completely stopped grouping my Thief-Thrower/Wizard duo in high lvl content because they both now lack the reliable defense and because I don't want to run the risk of getting berserked and nulling my own shifts just to get murdered next round by a hard hitter since I cant cast heal and shift again next turn.

As stated in other threads, pre-nerf Shift may have been too overpowered in general, but where it's at now is drastically too penalizing especially for solo/duo. On average you'll get hit at least 10-15 times per round between the enemy throwers and high movement-rate tanks, and having to give up a combat round to shift means death in most high end content unless your protected by a larger group.

I understand the rational for a Shift change, but it isn't a top tier exclusive spell and needs to be balanced for players of all playstyles. At least it should be put to 30 charges, but 45 or 60 would be preferred imo.

The enemy causing you to shift by throwing isn't a bug, it has always operated that way. We've been fairly public that we see this as an over penalizing outcome and will be making it so that shift will not be affected by throwing. I see people talking about NPCs that have too much movement rate, I'd like to be apprised of which NPCs have caused those observations to review the actual logic and see if there is some truth there.

I think in the near future we will find a happy ground of where shift needs to be, but in our analysis players with shift were virtually immune from melee combat unless we updated all NPC logic to dispel all of the time … which doesn't seem like a good plan.

Thanks for the constructive feedback, this type of feedback will generally receive a response from me because it includes:

  • Problem Statement
  • Solutions to problem
  • Vision of outcome

These types of articulate communications work much better than only highlighting "game is broke". This doesn't tell me what the problem is, what change would make you happy, or what your vision of a fun game would be.

Dark Minions in HUSH & Heroic Tulors will chase you across the screen 3 or 4 times, even when you shift completely across the screen.

nayr2012

Thank you Redbeard for acknowledging the concerns with new shift. I too never used to think there was a problem with enemy throwers causing shift or how many times a high lvl enemy could chase me around the screen until I was required to religiously watch my shift charges.

Throwers not causing shift will be a huge quality of life improvement under the new shift charge rules. I also believe Shift needs more charges in general; deciding between needing to cast shift again, or that heal or hold (knowing your shift will survive another round) is life or death in my experience.

Jordan said on discord last week there is no ETA they are still building the next content patch.

Zangulas

They must be planning a whole lot more than just Prestige 2 with this new content patch if the original ETA was the end of April.

Gimli

We have not confirmed Prestige 2 is in the next content patch.

Keep in mind we are all professionals with full time jobs and need to work on the game in our free time (that sometimes needs to be taken by other things such as family!)

Zangulas

No problem! This post just made it sound like it was almost done. You guys are doing a great job. ;)
