Carrigon
The Realm game skins were originally edited using a skin program called ActiveSkin 3.5, this was available on the original game site, along with a copy of the default game skins for editing. I still had a copy, so I put it up here for everyone to download:

Not claiming copyrights to it. Just sharing it so everyone can do their own game skins. Feel free to share the files or upload them here on the new official site. All that's in this file is the ActiveSkin 3.5 setup.exe, the default game skins, untouched, and a readme file with alittle instruction of how to install and edit the files. The program has been tested on Windows 10 and it works fine. Here is the readme file text:
ActiveSkin 3.5 and Official Realm Default Skins:
This is the old official Realm skin editor, ActiveSkin 3.5 from the official game site, and the official original skin files that were on the Realmserver site.
To install a new skin:
You must unzip them into the skins/user directory. DO NOT put them in the skins/default directory. Look for a similar folder to this one:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Norseman Games\The Realm Online\skins\user
To create a new skin or edit a skin file, install the ActiveSkin program, just double click the setup.exe. It works on Win 10. Open a skin file with the program, you can also double click a skin file once this is installed to load it into the program. Edit the file.
There are many ways to edit it. You can simply click the Hue option and you can change the basic color that way. You can copy the image, edit it in any paint like program, insert it back in with the SkinObject/Insert Object/From Bitmap option. Just play around with the program, you will figure it out. If you have any problems, make sure you are saving your edits as .bmp files, and you might need to take the color down in your paint program, like to 256 colors. I'm not sure on that, but since these game files were from so many years ago, that's usually what needs doing if more modern palettes don't work.
Have fun. I look forward to seeing all the new skins people will make.
P. S. No, you can't actually edit the in game files, you cannot use it to change the color of your boots or hat. This program is for editing your game windows only. You can edit the colors of your spell window, your health bar, that sort of thing. If you don't like the color of the game's button's, you can easily change them to blue or something else. You can do your own window borders, add new designs to them, do different colors.
NOTE: The download link has been updated and should contain the newest default skin files.
