Inventory pickup

I placed some items on the floor of my house in order to rearrange my inventory and now there are several items I cannot pick back up. Why? And is their some way around this or a fix for this? The items were mostly food (cheese, water, bread, etc), some potions, but most importantly two rings I acquired while in combat.

did you try pick the items using Alt - t ? ( alt - t lets you see everything on the floor ) if you place items in a pile
