I have been noticing a lot of people talking about loot and how a lot of it has lost value and become "shopfood". There are a bunch of helmets and other items that really have no decent stats on them and are basically useless you want some 90 armor rating thing.
I think there needs to be a big upgrade to the loot tables and maybe added stats/rare colors to the items that are already there with tweaked drop rates to make them valid again.
Here is a list of JUST some of the items off the top of my head that are currently usesless or have lost a ton of value.
Sauran Helm
Helm Of noursihmet
Raptor Helm
Viking helm
Courtiers Hat
Uplanders helm
Wizard hat
Cloth hood
Village idiots hat
Bracers of Defense
Greaves of Denstiy
Plate of Invul
Dragon Plate
Plate of insulation
Boots of Nimblness
Masked bandana
Nightmare helm (this one has recently basically lost all value)
Minerva Helm
Lady of the Realm
Legion Helm
Magic shield
Magic sword
The Defender
Vulcan Edge
Night soul Helm
Almost all of the amulets aside from Ammy of Combat and Ammy of Death Magic protection
Almost all of the rings except for Endurance and Intel.
And many more. As you can see this is quite a large chunk of the armor/weapons in the loot table. Rare backpacks would be a part of this there could be a handful of rare backpacks implemented which would be awesome.
Please can some of the staff give this some attention and or look into this? It would make the game better and more fun - it would bring back the enjoyment of finding these items, Please feel free to add anything I missed.
There are only a couple on your list that I agree with.
Mundane helms are just starter helms. Changing them would be like changing an admantium helm. In fact many already have higher AR than admantium so are already "best in slot" pre-magical helms.
Nightmare helm is currently one of the best helms in the game and probably the best helm at 150 when it can be worn. The droprate has saturated the market, but that doesn't mean it's useless.
Density items are viable armor now with the weight adjustments for pre-magical gearing. It outclasses Myth which many people use on starter toons because they are holding to old legacy ideals.
Magic Shield is a storebought item and best in slot offhand pre-300 for non-tanks.
Plate of Invuln and Bracers of Defense are best in slot for AR.
Vulcan and Defender seem properly balanced for a magic 1h, but it's true that there are few 1h users and most everyone is either a 2h user or wiz. It would be interesting to talk about what it would take to move more people to 1h usage.
I agree on Dragonscale Plate and Plate of Insulation. Unfortunately, despite their name they seem to have chain armor values. If they had comparable plate armor value to other armors, but had their innate elemental protections, they would be akin to density (comparable values with increased durability) and be more viable.
I realize that the overall point you're making is that there isn't a market for these items, and on that we agree. My point, though, is that most of them are still useful/valuable/serve a purpose whether they trade or not
Nightmare helm (this one has recently basically lost all value)
Most overpowered and best helmet in the game. No value because the drop rate is high.
All the helmets you listed are Mundane helms (starter helms)
The Anvil helms need to be revamped, some are just garbage… NMH blows them away.
The whole point of me posting was to show that "Mundane" helms take up a lot of the loot table and that we need more rare varieties. Also im not a powerleveler.
Rare means less drops, not more drops. Rare is what makes it fun, when you finally find one. You aren't supposed to get great things every run. That's why they're rare. They will add more things in time. It's not going to just stay this way. And we do have Halloween coming, they will probably add the Halloween helmets back in for that, too. Just give them time.
"Vulcan and Defender seem properly balanced for a magic 1h, but it's true that there are few 1h users and most everyone is either a 2h user or wiz. It would be interesting to talk about what it would take to move more people to 1h usage."
I just made an ASOW to use as a 1H Str/Dex hybrid. He gains 5 dex over ASGW, at the loss of 2 Str, and 3 endurance. Minimum wasted stats in Int, but with the +2 int over ASGW, and +25% Thaum from SoT, he can actually get off a halfway decent Greater Heal at a much earlier point in the round, which definitely has some use. Anyone who's tried to heal with an ASGW will tell you, not only does it heal very little, but their Dex is so low that it'll happen too late in the ground to get retaliation strikes, on top of it. Dex hybrid chars solve that problem, to some extent, without sacrificing huge amounts of Str (at least in the case of the ASOW.)
I think there's a lot of validity to 1H users, I'd agree they're not quite all the way there yet. But I think that's coming, which is why I wanted to start leveling one. It would be nice to have some shield options that are viable before Ward/Bastion. That will help.
The Amulets / Rings are a bit off on this.
For Rings: Int / End / Nourishment are very useful to most classes
For Amulets: Int / End / DMP / FW / Combat are also useful.
My main character has a full set of Int/End rings, a RoEN, and all of the amulets on him, fully enchanted. Sure, once you get the full set you're good and INT items seem to be rare, but amulets of Combat are obnoxious shop food. I must get 2-3 of them every time I run a dungeon with furies in it. I also agree with the Nightmare Helm statements other had made previously, it's incredibly well powered and a much better option than most other helms. It's a loose item, so the price is pretty low, I still 4x every single one I find and throw it up on the trade channel for an easy 200k. All of my characters have one of these until they get there 550+ Helms.
As to the Defender and Vulcan, both are in demand from what I've seen. They aren't so common that they're easy to find and they are a great starter weapon for a sword 'n board tanker (thanks for fixing shields!!)
PoI / BoD / Density gear is a staple as well for most of my characters in early levels. It's all about getting high AR so you aren't murdered, and until the higher levels, these are some of the best items to start out with.
The intell items, as it turns out, aren't as rare as we thought. They are regularly dropping in certain areas. If you do the liches in FHP and the five and two furies, you will quickly end up with a good amount of intell ammys and rings. And yesterday, I pulled an intell ammy out of Warrior's Abode. I think it might be alittle rarer in WA, but in FHP, you can get alot of them. I also pulled Boots of Density out of WA yesterday and Proficient WW bands.
