Can someone explain the different between Mysticism resistance (MR) which is shown on the /state screen, vs the 60% immunity to Mysticism spells which AoFW offers?
Is MR the determining factor on how long a spell may last on you, and AoFW 60% the chance to completely avoid the spell?
Also what is the cap on MR that you can accumulate, I've been told 75% on /state ?
Whatever the cap is (75%?) does this stack with the 60% immunity from AoFW?
And is the stack addative or multiplicative?
It's the same, the item simply hasn't been updated. Immunity isn't a thing anymore for Myst. Resistances simply help you shrug them off faster (sometimes instantly.) The /state screen shows you what your resistances are, which is capped at 75%. When you put AoFW on, you have 60% Myst resistance. If you wore AoFW, and an NMH, for example, you'd cap at 75% in the /state screen.
That's actually incorrect, or rather used to be on MW, not sure if it has changed though. Free Will was a one time chance to shrug a myst cast. So you had a 60% chance to shrug the cast if you wore something with free will.
This is all somewhat confusing due to the fact that the Amulet of Free Will provides a different benefit than other items that provide the "Free Will" effect. They really should be named differently.
AoFW provides +60% myst resist.
The "Free Will" effect on other items such as Anvil helms and the Executioner Axe is a 50% shrug chance.
Myst Resist provided by the AoFW (or any other resist giving item such as magic shields, helms, etc) work as "Magic Armor" in that it mitigates as armor does.
This means that Myst Resist will be most obvious on a spell cast against you such as Warp Mind - a damage spell - as it will reduce the amount of damage taken.
This means that on control effects Myst Resist should reduce the maximum duration (number of rounds) it will effect you. This is "less visible" as you will likely shrug it before it goes full rounds anyway.

@Charlie I'm now even more confused. So.. @TGCid is saying the "Free will" effect provides an automatic chance to shrug. But, AoFW does not provide a Free will effect, it provides myst resistance, you're stating?
So… we're both correct, and both wrong? My head hurts…
Yeah, it is confusing lol so the EA gave the Free Will effect which was a straight 50% chance to shrug a myst spell cast upon you the instant it was cast. Meanwhile the AoFW didn't actually give you the Free Will affect despite its name, it gave myst resistance which is now basically just magic armor and reduces the damage taken by that circle, since spells aren't resisted anymore.
For lower levels, I don't even think the AoFW is needed unless you're grouping in a high level cave. Most things won't myst you. It depends on what you're fighting. Priestesses might myst, a few of the sorcerer trolls or cows might try to myst, dark faeries. But most of the time, you don't have to worry about it. I think the magic shield gives some myst immunity, so if you carry one, you usually shrug it off. If you know something will try to myst you, you can cast fear on it and kill it first. Higher level caves and monsters, that's where you need as much MR as you can get.

Got it. So AoFW and NMH provide Myst resistance which will, lower damage from Myst spells, and lower rounds of effect (if you don't shrug it off.) While EA/Anvil helms that provide "Free will" give a chance to avoid the effect entirely, right from the start.
Clear as mud.

You got it!
It really is unfortunate that the amulet is called "Amulet of Free Will". It should be named "Amulet of Mind Protection" to put it in line with other +resist amulets since that's what it is.
@turbogfx Heya! "Myst Resistance" works like all other spell resistances. It's simply a reduction of whatever affect is being applied to the target. i.e. If I have 60% MR (Myst Resistance) and a caster landed a 10 round berserk on me, it would be reduced to 4 rounds. Same can be said for damage: If you have 60% NR (Necro Resist) and a caster landed 1,000 damage on you, it would be reduced to 400.
"Free Will" which gets confused with MR (no thanks to the AoFW) is a 50% chance to initially shrug any mysticism spell cast on you. So you could be 0% MR but w/ Free Will you have a 50% chance to shrug the spell cast on you initially. If the spell is landed successfully and you didnt get the initial shrug, you'll be subject to the full affect of the spell.
Hope this clears everything up! :)

Sam
