I would like to suggest that the game has a rich history and its longevity should be celebrated by all who enjoy the internet and gaming in general. That said I think the game has an unrealized potential to easily be tokenized to make available all art in several series of released NFTs. If you see how much the Cryptopunks sell for 10's thousands of dollars each and have no history or playable game content you would understand that The Realm is sitting on a literal crypto gold mine. It would be very easy to tokenize several collections of NFTs. On a larger scale suggestion, The Realm could profit from the NFTs and then create a metaverse version of the game. There is no reason that The Realm cannot compete with other metaverse platforms which have no history or content. The time is now to begin thinking about how The Realm is going to pave the way for NFTs and metaverse as it once did for MMORPGs. If you would like some guidance I am very capable of assisting with how this should be done and can be done within less than a month to roll out a series of NFT art collections that will sell. Another idea is to tokenize the in-game gold, mana, coppers, etc. They would be serialized so there is no way for them to be duplicated or even adopt an already existing cryptocurrency that can be transferred in and out of the game for real-life profit or loss. A new proof of work concept that pays to play. Lots of great ideas here but NFTs are low-hanging fruit that should be done immediately so the profits can be used to implement new development.
I actually think this is a great idea. It could bring some new players in and generate some hype for the game as well as raise funds for the devs to make new content. There are a lot of possibilities here. Could make characters into NFTs that cost $5 and any time they are sold a % of the proceeds go to a dev fund. All current players could get the option to mint their current characters into NFTs to be sold on a marketplace (like opensea, fractal, or even realmserver's own web marketplace) to other players.
Or being able to use an online marketplace to allow players to buy and sell items / characters to each other with a % of proceeds also going to devs.
Player owned dungeons could be bought and sold as NFTs where the owner of the dungeon gets a % of the gold earned from players who hunt there.
What if we turned NPC shops into player run shops and the shops could be sold by devs as NFTs, then players could run them or sell the shops to other players on a marketplace. Items currently sold in shops could become drops in dungeons so players could farm them and sell them in their shops.
I love the game the way it is but these are just some ideas to bounce around. Possibilities are endless! Any thoughts or other ideas?
I think that many people would discover that the realm is the very first metaverse. It is the Bitcoin of MMORPG. I think that people love nostalgia and a game as long running and original as TRO should get quite a bit of cheap publicity. I think that a collection of NFTs for just the heads of players would be highly sought after with a rare and ultra rare version NFTs and would sell for much more than people actually can comprehend. From there another collection of gods and prophets released with some storyline text on the details of the NFT. The NFT they buy can include a few things that would be an account paid in full for one year, in game content, dye packs, a colored name in chat, 10000 coppers, special edition baldric. The possibilities are endless. If anything it's a step towards at least getting into the NFT market and who knows what will come of it. I know I'll buy them all at least so others will also and the popularity will make it something others will take notice of and buy too. The art is already there, that's usually the hard part for artists to create, well it's already done just need to mint them! Give me the contract stating permission to use the art on behalf of the company and I would get it done ASAP. Or hire another company that is experienced in minting NFTs and they will take a cut but at least it's there and creating some attention and bringing in some interest and profit to the development of the game.

You can already buy a one year subscription and dyes are available in the Sovereign Shop. The other things you mentioned - colored names, coppers, other unique cosmetic gear, are all things we can already create and offer in the shop to sell.
I'm more than happy to sell someone a digitally signed URL reference to a location that may or may not at various points in time contain an image or not an image at all. Shall we start the bidding at $50,000?
I don't think this game is the right fit for any blockchain tokenization, whether it be game resources (gold/sovereigns) through ERC-20, or items/characters through ERC-1155/721 NFTs. I'm a big proponent of NFTs and their ability to redefine IP ownership, but this isn't the time or place.

As someone who works in the Crypto industry… Yeah this game isn't a great fit… In its current form.
I think some changes could be made, Bring back Heroic dungeon keys, make them NFTs. Let non nobles use keys for heroics.
Prestige items could work similarly. Augment a Free to play with single use items, could be done as an NFT if you wanted.
ERC-20 is dated though. Better fit for something unique on IBC.
Bottom line is, rather it's a dApp on Eth, or a L1 platform on Cosmos, TRO doesn't have the devs to tweak existing assets, let alone shoulder the dev ops of blockchain nonsense.

But why? This is a solution in search of a problem. Heroic dungeon keys don’t need to be tokenized. They function without that. They don’t even need to be bound to NFTs to be a limited run. And doing so wouldn’t stop the game devs from printing a second run anyway.
Bloating such a simple feature with NFTs accomplishes two things. It attempts to cash in on short term hype (even if NFTs are here to stay, the reason to add them to a fungible resource like a heroic dungeon key is to convince people who otherwise wouldn’t buy that they’re special . . . Somehow.). And it obligates the game to import another tech stack that will require its own maintenance and updates to provide security, performance, and stability.
Bring back Heroic dungeon keys, make them NFTs
Forgive me for being naïve, but what does this accomplish other than letting people with spare real world money spend it to shortcut dungeons? And why would it need to be an NFT, couldn't we just put it in the existing Sovereign Shop, assuming we wanted to do that?
The Realm game art can be easily minted on Rarible that is the easy part. The hard part is the art development which already exists. Think about it this way, what do Bored Apes or Crypto Punks offer other than low-resolution art? The Realm has art and a fully functional game which I would dare say is the very first metaverse. There is some value to that where other insanely priced NFTs have no historical relevance or nostalgia. If I had the rights to the game I would mint a few NFT collections whether they sold or not, there they would be for sale at the very least and appear on https://rarible.com. Putting heroic keys back into the game on the sovereign shop isn't going to help the game. Mint game art as NFTs and you will see that will get some attention.

So, yes opening up your wallet and paying a third party to perform a service is the “easy part.” But having pixel art isn’t the hard part.
For a collectible to have value, scarcity has to exist. You can make a limited print run of NFTs pointing to resource locators that at time of sale point to Realm art (although depending on licensing there may even be royalties associated with this use of the art). But no matter how limited you make it, you have to consider the size of the target market. How many people want to own a Realm-associated NFT at all? And of those, how many are so particular about a particular serialized print (or even particular image, if it’s one-of-each) that they’re willing to pay thousands or tens of thousands of dollars for it? Realm art in particular doesn’t have any novelty value to arbitrary NFT investors gamblers who aren’t already connected to the game. RuneScape, EverQuest, Ultima, etc. would have more mainstream brand recognition. Honestly I’d wager so would King’s Quest or Leisure Suit Larry.
And this isn’t without cost. Even discounting the fees for the minting and sales of the NFTs, when there turns out to be no resale market, people will see such an endeavour for the cash grab it is. This risks permanent damage to the brand and in consumer faith that the project is “for the fans” and not a long scheme to find a cash out. For a few hundred dollars of profit, that’s not even good business.

I agree with this point completely. Hence why I said
TRO doesn't have the devs to tweak existing assets, let alone shoulder the dev ops of blockchain nonsense.
I was merely pointing out the entire scope of the game would have to be changed to fit this F2P with NFT narrative, Heroic keys are among the easiest to implement ideas. Again, it isn't a good idea.

This wouldn't let them "skip" dungeons. I don't know if you remember, but Heroic dungeons used to require a key to enter. And again, it doesn't have to be an NFT. They could just as easily go in the Sovereign shop in packs.
Heroic keys are just one of the VERY few things in TRO you could turn into a microtransaction for people that didn't want to pay a sub.
Don't want to sub 6 account to run Heroics? Cool, buy 100 keys for $10 or whatever.
