Back in the day game mechanics were such that a wiz could pretty much hide by being low in group order and rarely got in trouble with melee attacks. Well things have certainly changed and my wiz gets attacked frequently (FD, GH). I was hoping the Expert Gear might have an appreciable boost in AR, but have been disappointed with its inherent 25% AR.
Surely I can't be alone here? Give the wizzies some protection! 25% Ain't gonna cut it.
I'd like to see an achievable 50-60% AR (after IA) somewhere along the gear chain.
EDit: Just realized I posted in General and not the Feedback, maybe someone will see it…
Wear plate for defense if you feel the need. Sure, you'll do less damage. That's why it's a trade-off. Conceptually, your defense is mostly supposed to come from shift/ranged damage, compared to a melee build that needs some armor. Similarly, a melee build can sacrifice some damage to wear PoInvuln, BoDef, etc., if that is their priority.

This.
Also theres been talk about Hybrid armor which would be an option for you if you're willing to sacrifice some SDM for AR. But best DPS, best CC, shift, invuln AND good armor? No.
With the upcoming updates in the next couple of months I don't think this will be as big of an issue as it is right now. Fighters will be able to set a tank aura in combat and mages can always cast shift/invuln. My goal is to have the lightest armor, so my AR is in the pits, but I'm able to get by and my main is usually visible in most fights.
Mages aren't tanks, they are glass tigers. What you're gonna' want to do is team your Mage up with a HP Hog (I use an AEGW for mine).
I do wish the AR was alittle better. I fight with like 50 to 56% AR on me. I do take damage when I get hit in FD or wherever. I just try to summon stuff to keep the monsters hitting them as much as I can.
Perhaps, but your Dexterity is a lot higher than most fighters. Max out Acrobatics, slap on a shield, and you should be taking a lot less damage than if you hadn't. You'll be fine!
